Automated takeoff from vector PDFs
Plans exported from CAD keep their geometry. Every curb line, pipe run and stripe is still a precise vector with real coordinates, and every label is real text. CivilQuick Takeoff uses that data directly. It measures the actual lines in the file at the sheet's scale instead of estimating from pixels, and reads the labels and legend instead of guessing from shapes.
How it works
- Sorts the set. It finds the plan sheets in a full set and tells roadway, utility, drainage, erosion control and traffic control sheets apart.
- Reads each sheet. It reads the scale, the legend and the line styles, and keeps proposed work apart from existing features.
- Measures and counts. It traces the linework for each pay item, closes areas, follows runs across breaks, and counts symbols and labeled items.
- Cleans up the set. It cuts each sheet at its match lines and drops repeats from profile and striping sheets, so nothing is counted twice.
- Shows its work. Every quantity links to the geometry behind it, and anything uncertain goes on a review list for you.
Automation you can check
On a heavy civil bid, a fast wrong number is worse than a slow right one. That is why CivilQuick is built around review: click a total to see the linework it came from, select any line to change its pay item, and measure areas, lengths and counts by hand when you need to. The software does the tracing, and you keep the judgment.
Runs in your browser
There is nothing to install. Upload the plan set, review the takeoff in the browser, and download the Excel workbook.
AI takeoff questions
What's a vector PDF?
A PDF exported straight from CAD, where lines and text are stored as geometry rather than as a scanned image. Most DOT and civil plan sets are issued this way.
Does it work on scanned plans?
Not yet. Scanned paper sets have no vector data, so CivilQuick Takeoff currently needs vector PDFs.
How accurate is AI takeoff?
It depends on the plans, which is why every CivilQuick quantity is traceable and editable. We're tuning it against real plan sets and engineer's estimates, and the review list points you at anything it isn't confident about.
Are my plans private?
Your plan sets are visible only to your account, and on a company account to the teammates you add.
